Landscape Maintenance Labour
Job Summary:
As a Landscape Labourer, you will assist in various landscaping tasks such as planting, maintaining gardens, and operating power tools. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and has a passion for maintaining and creating beautiful landscapes.
During the winter, the labourer will be required to continue the upkeep on the grounds and responsible for snow removal services at any point during a 24 hour period. He/she will be required to perform physical labour both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Duties:
• Daily grounds and landscape maintenance of residential, commercial and industrial properties.
• Assist in landscape maintenance tasks such as routine garden maintenance, weeding, mulching, edging, pruning and shaping, etc.
• Assists in spring and fall cleanups.
• Weed, rake, and collect refuse, remove litter and garbage.
• Cart and spread topsoil, mulch, gravel and other materials.
• Lay sod or seed.
• Plant bulbs, flowers, shrubs and trees.
• Edge garden beds.
• May assist from time to time in the construction of pathways, walkways, retaining walls, rock work, grading, etc.
• Load and unload all required tools and equipment from trucks and trailers.
• Maintain clean and organized job sites, trucks, equipment, and shop/office area.
• Perform basic daily maintenance of power equipment (grease, sharpen, clean, etc).
• Perform general landscape duties (manually transport product, prep, install, plant).
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
• Assist with general landscaping duties as assigned.
• Use assigned equipment for snow removal.
• Complete snow removal in a timely manner ensuring little disturbance to clients and neighbours.
• Complete snow removal and apply salt applications on steps, entrance ways and sidewalks.
• Report all incidents / accidents to your direct Crew Lead and Manager.
• Report all vacations and sick days to your Direct Manager.
• Responsible for overall company image (Courtland shirts, hats, beige cargo pants)
• Responsible for wearing all proper PPE and working in a safe and proper manner.
• Responsible for reporting all safety issues to your direct Manager.
Skills:
• Proficient in operating power tools and equipment commonly used in landscaping.
• Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks.
• Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Ability to follow landscape plans and instructions accurately.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure precise maintenance techniques.
• Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
• Familiarity with hand tools used in landscaping.
Requirements
• High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
• 1 year of working experience in a related field is an asset.
• Ability to participate in continuous improvement processes.
• An interest in plants of different kinds and the environment in which they thrive.
• Enjoy being outside.
• Moderate physical strength and stamina.
• Able to get along with customers at the workplace or in other locations.
• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Possess a valid G driver’s licence.
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
• First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets.
Work Conditions
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 to 75lb.
• Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required.
• Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, safety vests, etc.
• Hazards associated with the trade.
• Work both indoors and outdoors.
• Noisy with fumes.
• Long hours (which may entail 12 hours or more per working day).
• Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, squatting and bending.
• May perform work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and inclement weather.
Pay: $18.00 to $21.00/hr
