Snow Removal Equipment Operator

Since 2001, Courtland has been a premier presence in Landscaping, Pool Installation,
Groundskeeping, and Snow Removal, with a network in Southwestern Ontario ranging from
London to Niagara Falls. Courtland’s newest division, Courtland Niagara, was established in
2023 with a focus on serving industrial clients in the region.

Courtland Niagara is looking for an experienced Snow Removal Equipment Operator to join our
growing team in Thorold, Ontario. This position is seasonal on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week from November 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025 with no guaranteed or standby hours.

This position is eligible for our winter incentive program. It’s a great fit for someone with a
flexible schedule who is looking to fill in hours when it snows.

Hours: On Call 24/7, Variable; weather dependent from November 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024
Hourly Wage Range: $30-$35 per hour based on experience

The qualified candidate must enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions at any hour of
the day or night, and be able to carry out a variety of snow removal and ice control duties. The
qualified candidate must be able to competently operate a Bobcat T64 Skid Steer and a manual
transmission
agricultural tractor (John Deere 6130D or 6135E). Candidates will be required to
complete a short demonstration of their competency as part of the interview process so that
interviewers can confirm the candidate’s proficiency.

Responsibilities:
● Clear snow from company or customer sites from designated areas in accordance with
the site snow removal map during and following snow events.
● Pile snow in designated and approved locations only, being conscious to ensure snow
trails are removed and that snow berms are not blocking the safe operation of gates,
walkways, pathways, roadways, throughways, or other means of access to, from or
around the client or company site.
● Operate vehicles, heavy equipment and snow plow equipment in a safe, responsible and
efficient manner following all company policies and procedures.

● Control ice accumulations at job sites with the safe and responsible use of de-icing
agents (salt, treated salt, brine, liquids, or other deicing chemicals) before, during and
following precipitation and freezing events (snow, ice, rain, sleet, hail, etc.).
● Complete snow removal and ice control activities in a timely manner to minimize
disruption to our clients.
● Load truck-mounted salter with salt or other deicing materials.
● Snowblow, hand-shovel or hand-treat site areas as required (walkways, doorways, fire
equipment, etc.)
● Deploy snow stakes, traffic pylons, temporary signage or other safety equipment as,
when and where necessary to facilitate a safe working environment and to prevent
bystander hazards.
● Maintain a valid Class G driver’s license and clean driving record, and immediately
advise the manager of any charges or changes to your driving record or license status
● Accurately document site service records for all sites and all areas of each site including
times, services performed, etc.
● Submit paperwork and documentation promptly at the end of each shift or as required
by the crew leader, supervisor, or manager.
● Conduct and document pre-and-post-trip inspections as required on all vehicles and
equipment.
● Perform basic daily maintenance of vehicles, tools, and other power equipment (wash,
grease, sharpen, clean, etc).
● Responsible for housekeeping of work space, including equipment and shop space.

Qualifications:
● Must be able to operate tractors, skid steers and attached snow plow equipment
requiring monitoring of several conditions and making multiple, complex, and rapid
adjustments to safely and efficiently perform high quality snow removal tasks.
● Must be capable of operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner during
inclement weather conditions at all hours of the day or night including rain, snow, fog,
sleet, etc.
● Must be able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions on an industrial site with
frequent exposure to weather elements, repetitive motions, and frequent standing,
walking, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, uneven terrain, loud
noise, vibration, etc.
● Must maintain moderate physical strength, stamina, and sufficient capacity to perform
the major responsibilities of the position. Able to frequently exert moderately heavy (up
to 50 pounds) physical effort in moderate to heavy work, typically involving some
combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting,
carrying, pushing, and pulling.
● Able to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between
characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, and textures associated with job-related
objects, materials, and tasks.
● Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movements

● Excellent recordkeeping of work completed, equipment inspections, service logs and
weather reporting
● Able to perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather
conditions.
● Must hold a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean drivers history
● Must be able to competently operate a manual transmission.
● Must have reliable transportation to and from the work site as it is not readily accessible
by transit.
● Must have an approachable personality and be able to work well with others.
● Must be reliable, punctual, have a positive attitude, and be willing to learn.
● Must be willing and able to perform all duties well and thoroughly.
● Ability to read, write, and understand and follow directions.
● Able to interpret and follow site snow removal plans.
● Must have an eye for small details and be able to produce quality workmanship
● Must proficiently read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications and
technical manuals.
● Able to conduct routine maintenance and small repairs an asset
